The Red Ribbon is a commonly used symbol used to promote awareness and support for those living with HIV/AIDS. It is also a common symbol for substance abuse prevention and education.

In the United States, the Blue Ribbon is a symbol of awareness for Prostate Cancer and Colon Cancer. Regular and dark blue are both used to symbolize child abuse awareness.

The Pink Ribbon is most commonly associated with Breast Cancer awareness. It is also used to symbolize biological parents and childhood cancer awareness.

The yellow ribbon is most generally used as a symbol of hope. It is also more specifically worn to raise awareness for MIA/POW, suicide prevention, adoptive parents, amber alerts, bladder cancer, spina bifida (pale yellow is also used), and endometriosis. It is probably most recognized as being a symbol to support our troops.

The purple ribbon symbolizes awareness for pancreatic cancer, testicular cancer, thyroid cancer, domestic violence, ADD, alzheimer's, religious tolerance, animal abuse, the victims of 9/11 including the police and firefighters, Crohn's disease and colitis, cystic fibrosis, lupus, leimyosarcoma, and fibromyalgia.
